Business Development and Commercial Manager - Fife

Eden Scott’s client, Babcock Supply Chain Services (SCS) is a successful business within Babcock Marine, a division of Babcock International Group Ltd.   The Group, listed on the London Stock Exchange, is a large focused support services company working primarily with public sector institutions to supply effective, long term solutions to support their core operations. The company is organised into six business Divisions in the United Kingdom with overseas operations in Africa and North America. 

Babcock Marine is the largest of these divisions.  It supports the activities of its customers in the defence, marine, oil & gas and supply chain service markets.  Complementing the marine refit and building capability within Babcock Marine are comprehensive design, technical and project management skills providing a full range of support and supply chain services for both military and civil customers.

A key element of these services is provided by Babcock Supply Chain Services.  Based in the Rosyth Business Park, Babcock SCS is a leading provider of managed supply chain and equipment support services across a broad range of commodities which operates principally as a prime vendor in the UK Defence market.  The business is looking to maintain its outstanding record of growth by developing innovative management solutions for its prime customer and by developing its customer base through the provision of outsourced supply chain solutions for other defence prime contractors and in new markets. 

We are looking to recruit a Business Development and Commercial Manager to drive the business growth.  In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible to the Director SCS and will be key to growing the business base.  You will be required to analyse markets, identify, establish and pursue potential opportunities, developing business solutions aligned the customers’ needs whilst informing business strategy and capability development.    Experience of the defence / public sector market, development and maintenance of strong customer relationships, knowledge of supply chain operations and the management of equipment support together with the commercial capability to recognise and drive a good deal are preferred for this appointment.   Responsibilities will also include management of the end to end bid process, including tender writing, and the management and mitigation of commercial risk through the tender in line with corporate governance requirements.  This latter will require fluency in the MOD approach to commercial management and standard MOD contracting conditions (DEFCONs).

Ideally, the successful candidate will be a business development or contracts and commercial professional, qualified to degree standard or equivalent.  We envisage that the successful candidate will have a proven commercial and supply chain track record, delivered to defence clients.   You will also have the ability to build relationships and operate effectively with the customer, within the business and through the supply chain.
